The skin is very resistant, really. It is a barrier to most infections, a protective barrier for the organs, against cold, heat, UV… But it is also sensitive… to touch, to temperature variations, to pain, to time. Even if it has great capacities, the skin needs to be maintained. Here are its best allies.
1. Hydration
This is THE key word. Skin does not have the same texture on all areas of the body, it is thinner and more fragile on the face and neck, for example, and loses its moisture more quickly. That’s why it’s important to moisturize daily so that it retains its elasticity and softness and doesn’t look like “snake skin”.
2. Feeding from the inside out
Healthy skin is also built from within. You should consume vitamins A, C and E and antioxidants, which are found in fresh fruit and vegetables, oily fish, seafood, meat, offal, dried fruit, wholegrain cereals… it’s worth it!
3. Sleep
A lack of restful sleep can lead to physical disturbances but also has an impact on the physical aspect. Ideally, you should sleep between 6 and 8 hours a night (of course, this is an average) in a room where the temperature does not exceed 19°C, and avoid stimulants (tobacco, coffee, alcohol) before going to sleep, as well as eating too much food.
4. The UV filter
Indispensable, summer or winter, even in the city, even when locked up in an office. Did you know that UVA rays pass through glass? UVA is ultraviolet radiation that does not cause tanning, unlike UVB; it does not heat up, and you cannot feel it, which is why we were not suspicious of it until recently. We now know that they are harmful because by penetrating deep into the dermis, UVA rays damage the cells, often causing irreversible lesions; they cause skin cancer and accentuate skin ageing. Adopt the “protection” gesture by applying a filtering cream in the morning a day cream containing a sun filter.
